These are the salt dough Nisse ornaments I made until 1am last night so Santa could bring them :) A Nisse (or Tomte) is a Norwegian elf/gnome. At Christmas time we have a Julenisse (Christmas elf).
I did them in the dehydrator, they were super easy. The dough was corn starch, water and salt, it took about 10 minutes to make, I used a recipe I found on this blog.
Then I cut out the shapes and put them in the dehydrator on it's high setting (150F) for about 4-6 hours, I can't remember. Then I just painted them with acrylic paint, nothing fancy. I used puffy paint for the beard and mustache. Then I put them back in the dehydrator for about 20 minutes and they were done.
It's a great tradition that we are going to do more often, when the kids are older they can make their own Nisses. I don't know how long they will last, so I think I'll leave one out all year to see if they last. If they do, we will make them to give as gifts to friends and share our Viking spirit with everyone!
Just a little blurb about my December goal:
The house is not perfect, but it's getting so close. I have been able to sustain the level of clean and even scrub down doors and walls. In January I am going to buy a bunch of bleach pens and magic erasers and finish the job, there are things that scrubbing alone isn't fixing, and I don't have the cash to do it now. But I am feeling great about my ability to keep the house clean and livable, and people can even drop by unannounced and I won't be embarrassed, so that's progress!
Merry Christmas to all my family and friends, I love you all so much! Thanks for your prayers and just being there while Chris is deployed.
